What is Castle Clash?

Castle Clash is a mobile strategy game. The game is available for both Android and iOS mobiles and tablets and notepads as well. It can be played on PC as well, but that's a little trick I will explain towards the end of the article.

It requires Android 2.2 so basically can be played on any Android device. It is roughly around 50MB. It requires iOS 5 or up to run and takes up about 60MB. Castle Clash runs great on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch as well. Also the game is totally FREE to be played.

Castle Clash is an online mobile game so internet connection is required at all times. But there is no heavy data flow.

Castle Clash is played by over 50 million people on Android alone. So the game is very active.

Basics of Castle Clash

Castle Clash is a strategy game so basically it's all out war. Alongside you will have to build your city/town by building new buildings and upgrading existing ones. To battle you will have magic powers, troops and heroes. To be honest, Castle Clash is all about getting and leveling up your heroes. But to give the heroes a better chance at battle we need all other aspects improved.

Castle Clash Heroes

Heroes are probably the most important thing in Castle Clash. Getting heroes is a little tricky as it is completely random.

There are 31 heroes in the game and each has different attributes. These heroes are divided into four categories.

  • Sacrifices
  • Ordinary heroes
  • Elite heroes
  • Legendary heroes

Sacrifices

Sacrifices are a type of hero that can only be used to sacrifice to other heroes. These sacrifices will add towards leveling up another heroes' primary talent. So these Sacrifices cannot be used in battle. There are three types of sacrifices, namely; Slime (100xp), Crystal Ooze (600xp) and Gelatinous Champion (3000xp).

Ordinary Heroes

There are 8 ordinary heroes in Castle Clash. They are; Angel, Marauder, Hill Giant, Engineer, Frost Witch, Dryad, Alchemist and Marksman. There's high probability to get these ordinary heroes when you 'roll' for heroes. Compared to Elite and Legendary heroes these Ordinary heroes are pretty useless in battle, because their attack and hit points are low.

But Castle Clash gave us a unique way to use them effectively. We can garrison these ordinary heroes (along with Elite and Legendary heroes) inside our Arrow Towers (guard towers) and garrisoning ordinary heroes will provide towers with a special ability to target enemy heroes first. That becomes quite important when the town is under siege.

Elite Heroes

There are 9 Elite heroes in Castle Clash. Namely; Executioner, Assassin, Werewolf, Cyclops, Shaman, Pain-Da, Serpent Queen, Ice Demon and Triton.

These are relatively good heroes and there is considerable chance that you will get them too. However they are not as good as Legendary heroes. So if you are lucky enough to get Legendary heroes these Elite heroes can be garrisoned inside towers and that will boost towers attack and hit points.

Legendary Heroes

Your success in getting to the leader board will depend on your set of Legendary heroes and their primary and secondary skill levels. Legendary Heroes are the best and the most powerful and most costly in the game.

There are 10 Legendary Heroes as of now. They are; Paladin, Champion, Succubus, Druid, Ninja, Thunder God, Atlanticore, Spirit Mage, Pumpkin Duke and Snowzilla.

These will be the most useful heroes in battle. But if garrisoned these heroes will add increased damage to enemy heroes.

Succubus, Thunder God, Ninja, Atlanticore, Spirit Mage and Pumpkin Duke are must haves if you ever want to reach top of the leader boards.

Castle Clash new heroes to come...

There are hints of new heroes to come in the new year. Atlanticore, Snowzilla and Triton were three heroes that came with the last major update.

However there are signs of three other heroes to come.

  • The Captain - displayed in the left corner of the loading screen

How to get heroes

Getting heroes in Castle Clash is done by spending Gems, Shards or Honor Badges in the game. In the Heroes Altar you will see three options: Hire with Gems, Hire with HB (Honor Badges) and Hire with Shards. So use the three options as you will.

Hiring heroes with Gems and HB will be completely based on your luck. There is no guarantee that you will get a legendary hero if you roll more or less. There are instances where some people have got three legendary heroes in one roll. Also there are instances where people have not got a single legendary hero for months. So if you are lucky, good for you.

How to get Shards?

You can see the complete set of heroes when you enter into Hire with Shards option. Shards are some kid of reward you get for completing Dungeons. Dungeons is one of the many ways you can use your troops in battle. You can enter into Dungeons from the arrow icon on the bottom left of the screen. The higher level dungeons you unlock, the higher your shard reward will be. But then again Shard drop is random as well. So completing some dungeons may not get you shards as well. There is a daily offer of 30 shards if you buy gems worth of $1.99 which will also give you 230 gems. So you can consider that option as well.

How to get Gems?

Gems on the other hand must be purchased with money. But that's only if you want. Also gems can be obtained for free. There are offers that can be done which will earn you gems. You can see these offers when you enter the small gift box icon on the top left of the screen. Also gems can be obtained by completing daily offers. These too ca be seen at the same place. But you will only be able to accumulate 30 gems per day. Yeah, not much!!!

There are Achievements to be unlocked as you progress with the game. These achievements can be seen in the small siren type button at the bottom left corner of the screen. Completing these achievements will also earn you free gems.

How to get honor Badges?

Honor Badges will be earned by completing battles. The main source of Honor Badges will be from the Arena. Arena is a place where only heroes will go head to head. Winning an arena battle will earn you 40 HB and losing 6 HB. There is a 50/hour Honor Badge earning in the arena at the start and it will increase as your ranking increases in the arena by winning Arena battles. Also HB will be earned by raiding enemy bases and completing Dungeon quests. But those are small earnings.

How to play Castle Clash on PC

There are probably quite a few software to run Android apps on PC. But the one I use is BlueStacks App Player for Windows. It is easy to use, user friendly and simple. Just download the BlueStacks player and once you open it you will be given a place to search for apps. Just like in a mobile device search and download Castle Clash and you are good to go.

How to buy Gems if you don't have a Google Wallet

Buying gems in-game only allows you to pay with Google Wallet. But Google Wallet is one of the least favorite payment methods. So if you don't have a Google Wallet account, but do have one Paypal, Skrill/Moneybookers, Amazon, Mycard, NganLuong and NganLuong bank account you can use the following method.

  1. Find the 'settings' button at the lower left of the screen and click on it.
  2. In the window that appears go to 'Live Support' option. This will open up a browser in your device.
  3. Once the page loads type this in the URL column http://cc.igg.com/shop.php and press enter.
  4. Once you are in this page you will see different payment options available and click on the method you desire and select the gem package you wish to buy.
  5. This will take you to your specific payment option screen.
  6. Verify the payment details and they will credit the gems to your account immediately.

IMPORTANT

Once you open up the gem shop make sure the IGG ID displayed on screen matches with your in-game IGG ID. This usually works fine once you open up the browser going through the Live Support option. But just to make sure, double check the IGG ID.

Here Be Monsters

Here Be Monsters is a great new feature added to Castle Clash to give the players a chance to gather a definite amount of shards and massive amounts of XP for heroes.

What this feature does is it sends out 5 waves of monsters (basically the same heroes available in the game plus a Dinosaur) to attack our base. These monsters could spawn out of any corner randomly and will start attacking from the nearest units or buildings from their spawning point.

There are 10 levels (from A to J) of Here Be Monsters at the moment and each level has 5 waves of monsters each more difficult than the previous.

Watch this video below and get an idea about Here Be Monsters and the shard drop and the experience gain.

Might Reward System

Another important update that is coming in March 2014 is the Might Reward System. This will give each player a daily reward depending on the level of their Might. Higher the Might, higher the rewards are.

Shards, Gems, Honor Badges and Arena boosts are the available rewards.

For the full list of rewards at each levels of Might and Might ranking system watch the video below.
